Special Needs

Twin Lakes Special Needs Assistance

Twin Lakes Community has expanded its services to meet the growing needs of older adults with Developmental Disabilities (DD) and their aging caregivers. Many parents who have been lifelong caregivers are concerned about what will happen to their loved ones after they are no longer able to care for them.

As a continuing care retirement community, Twin Lakes Community allows families to continue living together as long as the caregiver is able to provide care, with assurance that the adult with DD can continue to live a full and rewarding life after the parent’s death. Twin Lakes provides a continuum of living options, from independent living to full nursing care, with additional services and supports to enable residents to live with independence, dignity and choice. Respite care is available to relieve caregivers as needed. The adult with DD is afforded choices of vocational and leisure activities (both on the campus and in the surrounding community).

At the death of the parents, the DD adult can easily transition to one of the several residential options available to them, based on their needs, preferences, and functional abilities. By having all these options available, both parent and adult with DD have the ability to reach and maintain maximum independence and choice, with peace of mind knowing their future needs will be met.
